Kampot

Kampot was a welcome change from the rushing city of Phnom Penh, with hardly any traffic and a very relaxed atmosphere. 

We stayed at Jack’s Place and enjoyed the little we saw of Kampot. Unfortunately, my cold turned out to be a vicious one and I was bed ridden for 3-4 days, so our plans of a sunset cruise along the river to see the fireflies and biolumiscent plankton never materialised. We managed a few meals out and a half day trip to Arcadia Water Park, which looked really good fun, but mostly I could only sleep and cough.

In the end, Blake moved us to a hotel next door so I could recover in peace and air con and after two more days I was up walking again and ready for an island retreat. Cue Rabbit Island, Kep.

To reach Kep we took the Crab Shuttle downriver, passing mangroves and all sorts of plantations and boating yards: the scenery was incredible and much better than a bus!

After a final ferry trip across a short stretch of sea, we reached Koh Tonsay, also known as Rabbit Island.
